Described by the NME as “The boy Robyn in all but name”, and hailed in The Sunday Times Culture section as “A songwriter of extraordinary dexterity”, Bright Light Bright Light, aka Rod Thomas, released one of 2012’s most compelling debut albums, Make Me Believe In Hope. With rave reviews from the music press, broadsheets and blogosphere, and winning fans across the pop spectrum, including Huw Stephens and Elton John, the Welsh songwriter’s album zeroes in on electro-pop’s devastating one-two of euphoria and alienation, elevated to greatness by killer choruses and depth-charged emotional heft.
Soon after debut single ‘Love Part II’ in 2010, Rod hit the road opening for Ellie Goulding on her sold-out UK tour. Since then, he has performed with his band at SXSW, opened for Erasure, been booked as support for Scissor Sisters’ UK Tour and for Clock Opera’s UK tour.
He has also remixed Kelis, Ellie Goulding and made countless bootlegs and mashups that fans and blogs alike have shared. His debut album enlists the talents of Scissor Sisters’ Del Marquis, The Pierces’ Allison Pierce and the fresh, gospel-tinged vocals of male diva Mykal Kilgore.
And as well as making his own music, he runs 90s clubnight ‘Another Night’ at London’s Vogue Fabrics, DJs for Sink The Pink, Dick & Fanny, Dirtbox, Dalston Superstore and has made exclusive mixes for fresh new clothing brand Aqua, BUTT Magazine and Ministry Of Sound.
